Treelings is a tree registration system that empowers individuals and organizations to plant trees and track their environmental impact — supporting nature-based carbon removal projects.

During the following 2 years of enlisting, the trees undergo regular monitoring through the use of drones, satellite images, and AI models to ensure their successful growth in the harsh climate of Mongolia. The process entails counting the number of trees, assessing the biomass, calculating carbon sequestration and checking their overall health with our algorithms. This information then gets recorded on blockchain and stays visible to their owners on the app and the website during their growth. 

Since launching our MVP in 2022, our application has been downloaded 10000+ times and we are currently monitoring 89 thousand trees of 6 forestation projects on our platform. On top of developing a digital solution, we also directly overlook the plantation of 30,000 trees in a 20 hectares of area affected by desertification. 

The need to transition to a lower carbon, naturesafe renewable energy-based economy is more urgent than ever. This report provides an  overview of potential opportunities for biodiversity enhancement for wind and solar developments, bringing together information on good  practice principles, case studies from industry practice, and a summary of existing approaches to biodiversity enhancement. It is intended as a  compendium summary resource for developers, combining a variety of diffuse information from literature and community of practice.

The key aim of this guidance is to reframe cumulative impact assessment (CIA) to help support biodiversity conservation and the achievement of global biodiversity goals (alongside climate and other societal development goals). This guidance is focused on biodiversity and wind and solar development, and is aimed primarily at government planners and project developers. The report applies approaches for government-led CIA and project-level CAI. However, since it is designed to help tackle some of the existing challenges of CIA, there is potentially broader applicability.

Other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) are sites outside protected areas that deliver effective and long-term in situ conservation of biodiversity. Biodiversity conservation may be the primary objective of the site, a secondary objective of a site that is managed for other purposes, or it may be an unintended consequence of the way the site is managed. OECMs may be governed and managed by governments, private entities or Indigenous peoples and local communities, or a combination of these. This tool guides an assessor through three steps to apply eight criteria which determine if a site qualifies as an OECM as set out under the Convention on Biological Diversity. For sites which do not currently meet all the criteria, the tool serves to highlight areas where further information or improvements in governance and management are required.

Inland waters – such as rivers, lakes and other wetlands – are among the most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. They are also the most threatened; almost one in three species is at risk of extinction and monitored populations of freshwater species have declined by 85% since 1970. The loss of these ecosystems has cascading effects on human livelihoods, cultures and our overall well-being. While protected and conserved areas can play an important role in bending the curve of inland water biodiversity and ecosystem loss, they have rarely been designed, designated, and managed for that purpose. Motivated by the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework’s inclusion of inland waters in the target to conserve 30% of the planet by 2030, this report provides guidance in employing protected areas and other effective area-based conservation measures to benefit these ecosystems and the biodiversity they support. Through a series of case studies and synthesized research, it highlights how integrating the unique needs of inland waters into area-based strategies can improve conservation effectiveness across all realms, build climate resilience and sustain critical ecosystem services.

Building River Dialogue and Governance (BRIDGE) has been running since 2011 with the goal to secure sustainable development, livelihoods and peace through transboundary cooperation. This document aims at presenting a summary of the unique approach of the programme which has been built over the last almost fifteen years, taking stock of key elements of the programmes approach in support of effective water management arrangements in over twenty river and lake basins worldwide.
