How the Global Species Action Plan and its Online Knowledge Platform support the implementation of NBSAPs and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework to achieve species conservation outcomes?

The Global Species Action Plan (GSAP) has been developed to support implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) by setting out the key strategic interventions and actions required to achieve successful outcomes for the conservation and sustainable use of species in the GBF Mission, Goals, and Targets.

IUCN and Partners have developed the GSAP Online Knowledge Platform to provide an online toolkit of resources, training support, and technical guidance to assist governments and other stakeholders to identify the right actions, actors and tools to conserve and manage native wild species effectively and to ensure they and their products are used sustainably, legally, and equitably.

The event will launch the GSAP Online Knowledge Platform and present to CBD Parties and all stakeholders how to use the GSAP and the GSAP Online Knowledge Platform to implement, monitor and report on the GBF for the species related targets.

This side event will have a panel discussion:

  • Introduce the Global Species Action Plan (GSAP) as an useful guide for CBD Parties and stakeholders to identify and take GSAP recommended actions to achieve species conservation outcomes for the GBF
  • Launch the Global Species Action Plan Online Knowledge Platform (GSAP SKILLS) as an implementation tool for GBF Targets and explain how it can support Parties and other stakeholders to implement, monitor and report on the GBF.
  • Discussion on how to use the GSAP and GSAP SKILLS to update and implement NBSAPs, and massively increasing species conservation actions at the national levels.
  • Discuss how GSAP can support countries to accelerate actions on the ground and mobilise species-related conservation knowledge through GSAP Online Knowledge Platform
