The ” Mono Delta Transboundary Biosphere Reserve ” project supports the management and sustainable use of natural resources in the Lower Mono region of Benin and Togo through the creation of a transboundary biosphere reserve. The process of creating the reserve has now been completed in Benin and Togo, and the various sites, including Bouche du Roy, have already been officially recognized as MAB sites by UNESCO.

Following a series of awareness-raising campaigns aimed at the initiative’s beneficiary populations, mapping of local resources and participatory zoning were carried out. This led to the development of local rules for managing the site’s resources and the establishment of local governance bodies for the reserve. But the sacralization of the site has been instrumental to the effective preservation of the environment.
