The Altillanura region in the Colombian Orinoco region is projected as an area of agricultural expansion for the coming years. In it, economic and productive development based on agro-industry and food security crops is proposed, which will require joining efforts, directing guidelines and creating agreements between the actors of the territory to achieve a balance between socio-ecological and socio-economic benefits for the region. For this, the Tonina project implemented by GIZ addressed the elaboration of the Main Ecological Structure – EEP at municipal scale (1:25,000), as a base input to identify the elements that support the ecological and natural processes that help to achieve the welfare of the populations. These contribute to territorial planning and management, institutional strengthening and capacity building for decision makers.
