Implemented as a pilot solution under the RESTORIVER Project (DRP0200419, Interreg Danube Region Programme).

The Foki side arm is a historic Danube branch in the Inland Delta about 40 km from Bratislava. Sediment accumulation reduced water flow and disconnected it from the river. The pilot restored 350 m of the branch by removing sediments to improve water circulation and support floodplain ecosystem stability.

The “small” Foki Side Arm is an old Danube side arm that was negatively affected by the construction and operation of the Gabčíkovo Waterworks. The disconnection from the main stream led to changes in water regime, affecting local fauna and flora, and adversely impacting the retention capacity of the area.

Dredging almost 8500 m3 of river sediments to mitigate the risk of floods, improve the water regime of the area, strengthen biodiversity and increase the country’s resilience to the negative impacts of climate change. Improves impact of recent restoration of a larger section of the Foki side arm.
