Over 30 organisations collaborated to produce this publication. It covers 295 terrestrial and marine species and subspecies of mammals, which were assessed within South African borders, excluding Swaziland and Lesotho. It brings up to date the current scientific knowledge of, and level of threat facing the mammals of South Africa, makes recommendations for strategic conservation and management of threatened mammals and their habitats and is intended to improve the effectiveness and synergy of existing conservation efforts.
