Guide sur l’évaluation des impacts cumulatifs sur la biodiversité des projets éoliens et solaires et des infrastructures associées
Un objectif clé de ce guide est de recadrer l’EIC pour aider à soutenir la conservation de la nature et la réalisation des objectifs mondiaux en matière de biodiversité (aux côtés des objectifs climatiques et autres objectifs de développement sociétaux). Ce guide est centré sur la biodiversité et le développement éolien et solaire, et s’adresse principalement aux planificateurs gouvernementaux et aux promoteurs de projets. Cependant, étant donné qu’il est conçu pour aider à relever certains des défis existants de l’EIC, sa portée est potentiellement plus vaste.
Panduan upaya konservasi berbasis kawasan yang efektif lainnya (OECM)
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, adopted in 2022, provides a framework for the effective implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) through four goals and 23 targets. Target 3 (known as the ‘30×30 target’) calls on Parties to conserve at least 30% of terrestrial, inland waters, and coastal and marine areas by 2030. These guidelines are designed to promote good practices relating to identifying, reporting, monitoring and strengthening OECMs. They are intended for use by a wide range of rightsholders and stakeholders to promote understanding of whether a site meets the CBD criteria for identifying an OECM, how to report OECM data at the national and global levels, and how to monitor and strengthen OECMs.
Swinging into action: French golf tees off for biodiversity conservation
To better understand and preserve the rich yet under-documented biodiversity of golf courses, the French Golf Federation partnered with the National Museum of Natural History in 2016 to launch the Golf for Biodiversity Programme. The initiative aims to improve ecological knowledge, management, and conservation practices on golf courses in France. When joining the Programme, an ecological diagnostic is conducted on the golf course by a naturalist organisation and clubs implement tailored action plans based on expert recommendations. A Bronze, Silver, or Gold certification rewards efforts to study, protect, and promote biodiversity, based on the club’s commitment level. Data collected feeds into the National Natural Heritage Inventory, advancing national scientific research. While the Museum gains valuable insights into previously overlooked ecosystems, clubs benefit from expert support, training, strong peer network, and enhanced image.
The Nature Conservancy & National Geographic Society Externship Program
Together, the partners developed a program centered around a rigorous externship open to young adults ages 18-25 to equip them with the knowledge, tools, and relationships to seek solutions and take action in their communities around the globe. The program intentionally creates more opportunities for young people from all communities to prepare for careers in conservation and exploration. At the end of this eight-week experience, externs create an ArcGIS StoryMap presentation based on the local conservation issue they investigated. As the externship concludes, participants can apply for seed funding to begin enacting the solutions they identified in their communities. The program has addressed the challenge of inadequate leadership opportunities for global youth, by providing young adults from ages 18-25 with the opportunity to tackle global conservation issues, while gaining conservation skills.
World Rowing: Healthy Waters, strong strokes for nature
Clean and healthy waters are vital for human health, food security, reversing nature loss, climate resilience, and sustainable development. Yet rivers, lakes, and coasts are under threat, affecting life on Earth and sports like Rowing, which depend on these ecosystems. To take action, World Rowing deepened its partnership with WWF International by launching the Healthy Waters Alliance, shifting from awareness to impact. The Alliance unites World Rowing and WWF communities to co-create and deliver projects that protect and restore waters essential to rowers, wildlife, communities, and economies. Projects can be initiated by National Rowing Federations, clubs, athletes, event organisers, or local WWF offices. The Healthy Waters Alliance Guide outlines the process for collaboration. In 2024, the Italian Rowing Federation and WWF Italy launched a seabed clean-up with a local NGO, and clubs joined Adopt a Beach, tackling plastic pollution. In 2025, Ambassador Martin Helseth led a clean-up of the Oslo fjord with clubs, NGOs & WWF.
Réduction des menaces pesant sur les espèces et restauration en République centrafricaine
This report presents findings from an assessment of the biodiversity conservation potential of four project sites: Lobaye, Mambéré-Kadéï, Ombella-Mpoko, and Sangha-Mbaéré located in the Bangui region of the Central African Republic (CAR). This assessment was done using the Species Threat Abatement and Recovery (STAR) metric, which employs high-resolution imagery and an approach to modelling species’ Area of Habitat (AOH) that was revised after June 2020 among other enhancements. This work was undertaken to better inform threat abatement and restoration planning and implementation at the partner project sites, and as part of a wider effort to pilot and strengthen the use of STAR as a tool for restoration and conservation practitioners, communities, investors, and policymakers.
Global Species Action Plan (Arabic version)
The Global Species Action Plan (GSAP) is a critical initiative developed to support the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF), to address the increasing biodiversity loss worldwide. The GSAP outlines strategic interventions and actions to conserve and sustainably manage species while ensuring equitable benefits. Emphasizing the critical role of species in ecosystem stability, human livelihoods, and cultural heritage, the GSAP seeks to prevent extinctions, reduce threats, and ensure equitable benefits from species use. Implementation involves diverse stakeholders, including governments, Indigenous peoples and Local communities, NGOs, academia, and businesses, fostering cooperation at global, regional, and local levels. The GSAP underscores the collective responsibility to safeguard Earth’s rich biological heritage for future generations.

Etude cartographique des herbiers de Posidonie de la Réserve Naturelle Marine de Cerbère-Banyuls
Le gestionnaire de la Réserve Naturelle Marine de Cerbère-Banyuls avait pour objectif la mise à jour de la cartographie des herbiers de Posidonie, une espèce protégée identifiée comme habitat prioritaire. Ce suivi à long terme, prévu dans le plan de gestion de la Réserve en 2018 a permis d’évaluer l’état de conservation des herbiers en y intégrant de nouvelles technologies mais également de compléter les lacunes observées dans les cartographies de petits fonds côtiers.
L’intégration de ces nouvelles technologies était essentielle pour obtenir des cartographies fines de nos habitats et pouvoir les comparer sur le long terme.
La reconduction de cette étude était nécessaire pour pouvoir déceler un potentiel impact sur l’habitat et proposer des mesures de gestion. La réalisation de cette cartographie fine a permis de mesurer l’évolution des herbiers de la Réserve et d’anticiper les pressions sur ce milieu par la réalisation d’aménagements et outils adaptés.
Lacs Sentinelles
Les lacs de haute montagne sont des écosystèmes fragiles, emblématiques et très attirants pour les activités de plein air (tourisme, randonnée, bivouac, pêche, etc.).
Jusque dans les années 2000-2010, ils étaient encore très peu étudiés ; les connaissances scientifiques qui existaient n’étaient pas utilisées pour orienter la gestion ou la protection de ces écosystèmes. Chaque acteur local travaillait isolément (gestionnaire d’espace protégé, associations de pêche, scientifiques, exploitant hydroélectrique, élus locaux).
La création du réseau Lacs Sentinelles a permis de générer un observatoire national, réunissant de nombreux partenaires autour d’un enjeu commun : connaître et protéger ces écosystèmes sensibles et anticiper leur évolution face aux changements climatique et sociétal.
Le réseau Lacs Sentinelles est coordonné par ASTERS-Conservatoire d’espaces naturels de Haute-Savoie.
