Humedales Urbanos Costeros: lugares que aporten al bien estar ciudadano o “basureros urbanos”

Urban wetlands play an important role in making cities more livable. They reduce flooding, supply drinking water, filter pollutants, and provide urban green spaces for recreation; however, they are under constant pressure and are vulnerable to the effects of climate change. The BIOCITIS (GIZ) Coastal Urban Wetlands project works with public and private entities and civil society to seek joint solutions to address the challenges of urban wetland management, based on six key steps: Participatory and inter-institutional assessment of the condition of coastal urban wetlands; participatory and inter-institutional planning of solutions; capacity-building for wetland management; participatory organization of community wetland care days; Raising awareness about the importance of wetlands and integrating coastal urban wetlands into public policy processes.
