Food safety in the new member states : implementation of the acquis communautaire and communication to farmers and consumers
Since 2004, the ten new Member States of the European Union found themselves in a new political and legal environment. After accession to the EU, the key task of the governments of the ten is to reach a balance between co-operation to introduce sustainable, efficient and effective policies dealing with consumer protection, sustainable development and food safety at the EU level on one hand; and on the other hand, to provide services and activities on national, regional and local levels, responding to the diverse social, ecological and economic situations in each Member State.
