The report “Dams in Nepal: Ensuring Compliance” summarises findings of a study on ensuring compliance conducted by WAFED-Nepal. The study has reviewed the existing domestic and international policy and legal provisions, institutional mechanisms and available remedies applicable related to hydropower development in Nepal, including those of the World Bank, Asian Development Bank and Japan Bank for International Cooperation. Relevant international human rights instruments ratified by Nepal and access to remedies in case of non-compliance and violations have been analyzed. In addition, some past and present experiences based on the ground reality have also been cross-checked. In the end, the report has come up with conclusions and recommendations for future course of actions relating to the construction of large dams in Nepal.
